Celebrating International Earth Day

Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of caring for the environment and the role we all play in it. Observed every year on April 22, it brings together individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide with a shared goal—to protect the planet and ensure a better future for generations to come.

History

Earth Day is officially celebrated on April 22 in more than 190 countries, but the idea itself dates back to 1969, when peace activist John McConnell first proposed a day dedicated to the Earth. The first observance took place on March 21, 1970, in San Francisco, coinciding with the vernal equinox.

Soon after, April 22 was adopted as the official date, as it proved more practical for organizing events each year. Over time, Earth Day grew into a global initiative, raising awareness of environmental challenges and encouraging collective action.

The theme for 2026, “Our Power, Our Planet,” reflects the importance of shared responsibility and the impact of collective effort. It emphasises practical, everyday actions and encourages individuals, families, and communities to move beyond awareness and contribute to meaningful change.

Our Approach

At Ivančica d.d., environmental responsibility is an ongoing process that shapes how we design, source, and produce.

Our key activities include:

  • Natural leather sourced from LWG-certified suppliers
  • 100% renewable electricity used in our Croatian production facilities
  • A defined sustainability strategy that guides our business until 2030
  • Ongoing progress in ESG performance and reporting
  • Greenhouse gas emission reduction aligned with Science-Based Targets (SBTi)
  • Packaging made from recycled materials

Additionally, operations are aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, which cover quality management, environmental management, and occupational health and safety.

We continue to strengthen our approach through collaboration and external initiatives. Membership in the Leather Working Group supports responsible sourcing practices, while our emission reduction targets—aligned with leading international frameworks—guide our long-term direction.

Our focus also includes improving efficiency in production processes, reducing resource use where possible, and maintaining transparent communication about our progress.

Small steps matter

Caring for the planet starts with everyday choices. Even small actions can contribute to a larger positive impact:

  • Choose durable, thoughtfully made products
  • Reduce waste and recycle materials whenever possible
  • Use energy and water responsibly
  • Support companies that act with accountability
  • Opt for walking, cycling, or public transport when possible
  • Share awareness and encourage others to take part

Every action matters. Together, these small steps can make a meaningful difference over time.
